Leveling an uneven basement floor

I have an uneven basement floor that needs a thin concrete overlay. To avoid future issues I'm seeking input on the correct concrete mix, PSI, and bonding method. Are there specific techniques that work better in areas prone to moisture or temperature shifts?

Are you leveling out a slab? So what's the plan? Is your plan decorative concrete? Usually proprietary mix for that and then it's like 2:1 ratio of marble dust, polymer, and milk.
 
Appreciate your input @EdSheRan ! Yes, I'm leveling out a slab and considering a functional overlay rather than a decorative finish for now. Would that 2:1 mix you mentioned still work well for durability and moisture prone areas or is there another mix you'd recommend for this kind of setting?
 
The marble dust and milk method seems better suited for decorative work which I'll keep in mind for future projects. Thanks for the tips! I went with a polymer modified concrete mix rated at 3500 PSI for added durability and flexibility. Before applying the overlay I used a bonding agent to ensure proper adhesion to the existing floor.

Since moisture is a concern in my area, I also applied a vapor barrier before pouring the new layer. The process went smoothly and the floor looks great with no signs of cracking or delamination. Proper curing was key. I kept the surface damp for a few days to avoid shrinkage issues.

When planning to overlay a basement, choose a polymer-modified mix with a strength of 4000 PSI or more. It's great for handling moisture and temperature changes. The most important step is prepping the surface, grind or shot blast it, test for moisture, and if necessary, apply an epoxy vapor barrier. Also, use a reliable bonding agent before you pour the mix, and let it cure slowly. This will help ensure it stays strong for a long time

Thanks for chipping in with those pointers. I appreciate you sharing that detailed advice for basement overlays. The job is actually finished now but it's good to know my approach aligned with many of those steps.
