additional foundation question

We're doing this 20x10' extension and permits are almost ready to go! I've been working with an architect and engineer, but something about the foundation plan is not sitting right with me. the new foundation which will have 2' stem wall and footer isn't attached to the existing slab, my architect says it's normal. is this the case?

I'm no engineer so I'm wondering is it really okay for these to just sit next to each other? Or should I push to have it tied in? I'm worried about messing with the engineer's stamp if I just add it myself. thanks for any input!

Usually, new foundation footers can sit beside existing slabs, but tying them together often adds stability and yeah ask your engineer to confirm before making changes, don't risk the stamped plans.

If the new foundation isn't tied to the existing slab, you could get shifting or uneven settling over time, especially if soil conditions vary or there's any moisture movement
