My friend and i are arguing about this. He's all for it but im not so sure. He built a patio (18x20 feet) like this and it looks good i will give him that. But im worried about how it will hold up over time with the weather and seasons here in the northern Midwest. What do you think or have you seen?

If you ask me, it's risky. the midwest weather is unforgiving, and that patio won't last as long as your friend thinks. wood, even treated, will warp, crack, and rot over time with all the moisture and freezing temperatures. It's just a matter of when. If you're serious about it lasting, consider using more durable materials like stone or pavers. don't waste your time on something that won't hold up.
